Dropshipping Wholesaler: Finding Products to Sell on EBay

These days, selling products successfully on EBay depends a great deal on understanding the sort of selling EBay is. One other post you may find helpful is Wow, A Must Have EBay Sourcing Secret. But let’s get back to the issue at hand–is dropshipping profitable, and can you really make money dropshipping products on EBay?

It is very important to understand the difference between dropshipping companies and companies who dropship products. A dropshipping company is a company specifically set up to dropship a range of goods. The dropship company itself is usually a retail business with contacts to wholesale distributors and/or liquidation inventory distributors. Many of these companies are legitimate businesses but unsuitable for the EBay market place because the cost of doing business with them is to high to successfully compete. In order to dropship on EBay, you must be very sure of your product and have a thorough understanding of the competition. You must thoroughly analyze the precise cost of running an auction for your product to know whether or not you can make a profit.

Companies who dropship, on the other hand, are companies in business to distribute and/or manufacture a particular product line. Their business is not dropshipping, per se. Their business is selling/distributing a particular product. They may provide dropshipping as a service to their clients. Such companies are typically true wholesalers, and your best prices will generally come from this sort of company. However, can you make a profit on EBay? Again, generally speaking, it will be very difficult to succeed on EBay selling goods and/or dropshipping goods because EBay itself is a wholesale selling environment. That is, most goods on EBay are already selling at or below wholesale prices. Therefore, if you buy at wholesale prices and sell above that to make a profit, you may not be able to compete with other sellers selling at or below your price. This is why it will take research to determine if you have a reasonable chance of making a profit.

Dropshipping generally works best for ecommerce, and it is in the ecommerce market place that you stand the best chance of making a success of your business. You must still do the research and business planning before you launch your store. And again, you will need to find product suppliers with reliable products, inventory, and good customer service.
