FAQ Report 1–Your Questions Answered!

We wanted to find out more about what questions people have been asking about wholesale, dropship, and liquidation product supply, and what people might be wanting to know about starting up their own dropship business or selling on eBay. For this article, we simply went to Yahoo Answers and did a search under “wholesale dropship.” We have edited some of the questions and answers to clean up spelling and punctuation, and to warn about bad links. We found it interesting that many of the responders recommended Salehoo as a directory resource with reliable product sourcing leads. You can check us on this by doing your own search in Yahoo Answers just as we did. We will be publishing additional FAQ reports in the near future.

Q: I would really like to work at home and make money online through the internet and am looking for opportunities. Drops hipping seems to be the way to go and get paid through paypal.

A: I run an ebay business and do somewhat good. I net about 5k a month (after ebay and paypal fees) . There are sellers out there making 15-20k im still trying to get to that level. I do live comfortable though and work about 20 hours a week. I use the wholesale company salehoo for all my merchandise, I mainly like the community of other sellers that I talk to on a daily basis. I specialize in dvds and cds because they are light to ship and you can make a few dollars off of shipping. They do have a lot more besides dvds and cds though.

Q: am trying to sell electonics online, i need a real dropship/wholesale, anybody can help me please?

A: Check Salehoo you will find lots of big electonics wholesalers there , http://www.salehoowholesalers.com [This is a redirect to salehoo.com, by the way] its the biggest wholesalers list online and most . . . .

Q: Has any one used wholesale drop ship companies? Does it work?

A: The real and in my opinion for you is that I myself both have a successful online business which involves drop ship companies as well as work for one. I work for a company that is a wholesale company for sporting goods. I set up what we call “dealer-ease accounts” and let me give you the real deal. You can be scammed and spend alot of money and get no where… if your blind, deaf and have money to burn. The truth is there are lots of inexpensive ways to market your business and if you ask lots of questions pertaining to return policies, shipping policies, up front expenses and any regulation on ads… you will do just fine. The key is to look for longevity, a company that has been around and check with the local BBB (better business bureau) where the company is based for complaints. If all that checks out, I’d say go for it.

Q: Does anyone know any wholesale or drop ship websites?

A: what is your product? If you are looking for computer parts, then the wholesaler will be different than if you are looking for a wholesale shoe distributor.
You have to be very careful when dealing with some drop shipping sites. Many of them are really just middlemen to the real “wholesale” site. So they buy cheap products and sell them to you just above what they bought them for but just below what other sites sell them for. The best site is Salehoo, because they give you reviews on every wholesaler.

Q: What’s the different between drop ship and wholesale?

A: Drop ship: You may buy a product at wholesale or some price higher. Your dropship supplier, will deliver the product to your customer. The customer was suppose to pay you, you pay the drop ship supplier and all is well.
Wholesale, You buy in mass a product and sell in smaller quantities at higher price to your customer. The Supplier ships all the product to you, you have to ship it to your customers.

Q: Ok, Ebay sellers . Help me. I have been trying ebay for months. I was successful at selling everything in my closet. My closet is now empty. I have nothing else to sell. I see all the power sellers have the same products that they just resell over and over. My feedback is at a strong 198 in the last 4 months. I want to reach a higher number. Where can I go to find products to buy, where I can sell at a good profit?

A: I am a current ebay powerseller. I have done ebay over the years as a living. I have attended the ebay U http://pages.ebay.com/university/ attended many classes and seminars and even met Pierre Omidyar (founder of ebay) . At first I started selling stuff around the house, then I went to thrift stores and garage sales (the profit is not so good) . The best luck I have had is with my current provider of the last few years. I wish you the best. Email me for support.

Q: Is it a good idea to pay for a wholesale dropship list….is it worth it…are there any good ones….help!!!?

A: Your best bet if you really want to work with integrity is to get your vendor license or Tax ID and get a directory of wholesalers and distributors from your local library. You will find companies that will drop ship, offer you volume discounts, not charge you tax for resale, and won’t have the competition that those lists have.

Q: want to create a “real” online wholesale list that has legit suppliers who dropship and sell wholesale to companies who may or may not have a sales and use tax id. I plan to have MOQ and website names, payment methods accepted, etc… My question is do I need to contact these companies for permission if I do this based off of copyright laws, etc…?

A: You never need permission to publish facts or your own opinions. Directories do not need the permission of the companies included.
Be sure you include a disclaimer, and a special e-mail link for people to report errors. (You’ll also get spam on any link you post, so use a spam-proof address. Here’s one way to do that:

Q: I’m just starting out in business. How do I determine what price I should charge a drop shipper, versus a wholesale price to a retailer? For example, some of my products are suggested retail of 29.00, with a wholesale of 12.99. Would drop ship be expected to be the same as wholesale?

A: Since you are wholesaling you don’t have to handle individual packages and ship them, you can afford to charge 60% or less of retail. When you drop ship you still have to break cartoons and repackage and ship individually so what your charge has to cover the cost of doing this. Remember you don’t have selling and marketing costs so the price is somewhere between wholesale and retail but enough to cover your shipping and handling costs.

Q: Where can I find a distributor or wholesale drop shipper? How do I get them to carry my product? Does a distributor act as a sales representative when dealing with retailers or do I have to provide my own sales rep?

A: If a company is willing to drop ship, that means they are willing to ship “one” product at a time out to your customer. They will replace their business name with your name and address so your customer never knows who your supplier is. A drop ship wholesaler will only ship to you in bulk and a distributor is normally a middleman just trying to make a buck. The website I have used since 2004 is www.BuyatDiscounts.com. [This URL appears to be offlline] I sell a lot of their products on ebay for a good profit and have never had issues.

Q I sell on EBay however it’s just so hard out there to find good products that people want to buy for affordable prices. Does anyone know of any good websites to buy wholesale or to drop ship?

A: Drop shipping and eBay are not a good mix. It is nearly impossible to compete on eBay using drop shipping. The profit margins are small. The products are often out of stock.
Look what people have to say on the eBay forums. http://forums.ebay.com/db1/thread.jspa?t… It just seems like your best bet is to find some small wholesalers who will sell to you.

Q: Hello there, I was thinking about selling some items at craft shows. A friend of mine’s aunt sells those knockoff designer purses you get in NY and makes like $1000 or so at a show around here. I was wondering if anyone knew any good resources for shows in my area (Youngstown, OH and also close to the PA line) and how I can get information to sign up for the shows, fees, if they say what kind of products are sold, etc.

I found these candles online I think would do well and they have a drop ship I can do if I run out as well as wholesale, if you bought over $300 I believe it was 35% off, www.coolcandle.com I believe it is and I just want to make sure not a lot of people would have the same thing at these events because I think these would be a big seller.

Also I read it helps if you accept credit cards at these events-how can I do that and don’t people normally just pay cash? I’m not real sure but I was wondering….but please if you can share any good information, I’d appreciate it…

A: If you think you can sell them then you probably will!!
I have been to fairs and other type of craft shows as a vendor and I have not but one candle person. I live in Washington. Taxes are only required after a certain amount of income. But I am not a tax consultant. You should probably take that question up with someone qualified to answer. The company I work for takes credit cards. I have only had half dozen clients use cards since 2004. I would leave that option till later when you are more established.
Good luck in becoming your own boss!!

Q: am going to start buying wholesale products & reselling them on Ebay. I was told I will need a tax id number. It will only be me and I’m sure I won’t be selling a TON I really don’t know but does anybody know if I will need a tax ID & Also will this affect filing my taxes at the beginning of the year? Will this mean I may have to pay when I file taxes? Any info is much appreciated thanks!

A: A tax ID is required by your state in order to pay sales tax collected from your customers and submitted to the state.
In this case, you are exempt from tax at the wholesale level, by the supplier.

Some suppliers will allow you to pay sales tax on the wholesale invoice at time of purchase and they submit those taxes to your state.

This has two advantages for you.
You don’t need a tax ID number, as you dont pay sales tax to the state, as it is collected and submitted by the supplier.
Secondly, you can charge sales tax on your retail sales amount and keep all of it.

YES, it’s legal to do that. It’s a loop hole in state tax laws.
Many retailers operate this way.

If you are required to collect sales tax when shipping to a state that requires colection of sales tax, then you must submit the full amount to that state.

Sales tax has no bearing on your personal return.
Net income is taxable as regular income in addition to any other taxable income.

There you have it! Real people desparate for information on how to buy wholesale or dropship products from home. These are not our words, but the words of actual people seeking information on wholesale dropship product sourcing on Yahoo Answers so that they can profit from their own home business. I can’t tell how surprised I was to find so many mentions of Salehoo in the answers. There are a several really good online wholesale dropship directories, and it was Salehoo that figured most prominently.
