Is wholesale drop shipping a viable model for the small, work-at-home based business . . . . ?
Are you seeking a legitimate home-based business selling goods via eBay or from an online store? Have you heard how easy “easy” money is made dropshipping wholesale goods?
Perhaps you are one of the many people who found our site through the search engines and come seeking answers to questions regarding dropshipping physical products or sourcing goods for ebay. The quest for online, home-base income has become a sort of Holy Grail among those seeking greater personal freedom and financial autonomy, and anyone hearing the stories of those who made fast money promoting Google’s AdSense program, and myriad other gimmicks and schemes may very well believe all of the Grail talk to be true.
However, a wise and successful Internet marketer once said that to be successful in business, you have to be good at business. Meaning that quick online income and legitimate home-based business success, online or offline, are not necessarily the same thing. Almost anyone with luck can make some money, but it takes business skill and knowing where the “gold” is to keep your money. In the area of Internet marketing–and business in general–it is important to understand the difference between a gimmick that makes money and a business. AdSense, for example, is a gimmick, but ecommerce–running your own online store–is a business. In ecommerce, a key issue is product sourcing, and so one of the biggest wholesale and dropship so-called “secrets” is where and how to source your products, and that is where wholesale drop ship directories, suppliers, and distributors come in. (Find Out More)
Goods and Services
Wholesale sourcing, drop-ship directories and distributors are a vital element of the equation. Unless you are a scammer, you really only have two things to offer through legitimate home business. Goods or services (or both). If you want to offer goods, then you have a choice of physical products or digital products. Here, we are concerned about physical products, so we can either stock our own inventory and ship from our business, or sell goods that will be shipped independantly by a manufacturer or distributor.

Wholesale Product Sourcing
Wholesale sources will supply our products in the first instance above, where we stock our own inventory. There is a great deal of brouha and noise about how to tell a real wholesaler from a middleman. Let’s get this out in the open right now. A real wholesale business will always require proof of a state retail sales tax permit. Any business saying or implying that it is a wholesaler but not requiring a sales tax permit from you is not a true wholesaler. The term, “middleman” or “middlemen,” generally refers to these sorts of businesses, that is, retail businesses charging discounted prices but misrepresenting themselves as wholesalers.
A moment ago we made reference to the sales tax permit. The sales tax permit, sometimes referred to as a resale certificate, is simply a license granted by your state that allows you to buy goods for resale without having to pay sales tax. Anyone can get a sales tax permit from their state of residence; it is easy to get, and generally costs nothing. So don’t fall for “middlemen” who charge a fee to help with this. (Find Out More)
A true wholesale directory will provide you with a list of companies able to source your business at wholesale prices. Even though you can do the research to find wholesalers yourself, there are some very good directories available for purchase. The best of these update their data base of suppliers on a regular frequent basis and also provide forums so that you always know what the “word on the street” is.
Now, although a real wholesale company will always require you to have a state retail sales tax permit–and you will need this if you have a true home business–don’t reject a company just because it may not be a true wholesaler. The important thing is whether or not the price is right for you to make a profit. There are also companies, such as liquidators and jobbers, who may sell below wholesale price and do not require a retail sales tax permit. Examples of such companies are sav-on-wholesale.com and liquidators.com. (Helpful Hint)
Drop Ship Product Sourcing
A drop shipper is a manufacturer or distributor who stocks the inventory and mails it out to your customer under your company name. You sell the product at whatever price you set, pay the dropship supplier and keep the difference. Some dropshippers may require membership fees, some may require minimum purchases, others may mark the price of the product up from the wholesale price. When researching dropshippers, it is important to establish whether or not the dropship price will allow you to make a profit.
Drop shipping is often touted as an easy way to sell on eBay because the dropshipper is responsible for inventory and shipping to your customers. Drop shipping is still effective, and many sellers are doing very well. However, the eBay market place is so competitive that you really have to research your product and dropshipper to verify that you will be able to make a profit. A reliable drop ship directory can be a very important resource. However, it is vital to do the research on your product, the environment in which you plan to sell, and on the wholesale and drop ship sources you plan to use. Again, the best wholesale drop-ship directories help you out by verifying the integrity of suppliers they work with.
If you are brand new to the area of wholesale and dropship product sourcing and are starting from scratch, you are at a disadvantage because you may not know how to evaluate the information you are presented with, and so you are not sure how to determine what’s good and what’s bad.
With that in mind, we do have two recommendations for you. Neither one will set you back very much, and we think they offer tremendous value for the price. Each requires a one-time only payment. The first directory, Salehoo, allows access to a list of around 800 wholesale, dropship, liquidation-closeout and other low cost suppliers. Through this list of contacts, you have potential access to thousands of products. Also available is the Salehoo forum. The forum may be its most valuable asset. You not only have at your fingertips the forum archives, but you can plug in to a very active network of other buyers and sellers. You can find out more, here:
The second directory is for those of you who know that you want to focus on media, primarily DVD movies. The Jillian Entertainment Guide is still the best list of wholesale, dropship. and liquidation-closeout DVD sources that we have yet to find. And we have looked. The price of the Guide is probably no more than the cost of a movie, drinks, and snacks for you and a date. But if you are considering selling DVDs on eBay or through ecommerce, this will give you wide range of contacts including the major studio sources and the major wholesale houses distributing to retail outlets throughout the United States. These will be the same sources used by some (not all, of course) of the eBay power sellers. Find out more right here:

Everyone wants the SECRET to ebay power seller wholesale product sources,
but the truth may surprise you.
The truth–in my opinion–the truth is that eBay is a wholesale selling environment. That is to say, that most of the products sold on eBay are already at or below wholesale price. What that means is that, generally speaking, if you buy products wholesale, then you have already compromised your profit margin. In fact, you may have sacrificed it altogether. You can read more about his in my EBay Sourcing Secret post.
This is actually something that I first started thinking about because of the Salehoo forum. Personally, I think this is a significant point.
The title of this post is intended as an irony. The point is that many, probably most, eBay power sellers don’t purchase from wholesalers. They either purchase directly from manufacturers or from liquidation-closeout specialists in very large bulk quantities in order to drive the price down. The other scenario is that they make their own products or have a local source and are thereby the only supplier of their particular line.
The point of this post is that I want you to understand that if you buy from wholesalers, no matter how legitimate, you are likely to find your profit margin compromised because the prices on eBay are already at or below wholesale. Please don’t underestimate the value of this tip.
We happen to be members of the Salehoo online product distributor membership. Salehoo provides contact information to liquidation-closeout specialists, factory distributors, wholesale and dropship product distributors. If you want to sell on eBay, this resource might be of help to you. However, to sell on eBay, chances are that you will need contacts to factory distributors and liquidation close-out businesses. The message I’m trying to get across is that if you are looking for wholesale distributors of products you can sell on eBay, that might not work for you. You may need to look for product sources that offer prices way below wholesale. The reason, again, is that the prices on eBay are already at wholesale.
If you think you might be interested in a reputable online directory for liquidation-closeout specialists, factory distributors, and wholesale dropshipship distributors, we invite you to,

How you can do an end run around wholesale dropship product prices! Are wholesale forums worth it? and is Salehoo really a scam?
Why bother worrying about finding wholesale products to sell online when you can buy high quality, low cost products far below wholesale prices?
One of the great dirty wholesale secrets and secret of eBay power seller sourcing is the power of buying in bulk. It is no secret that buying 1000 items from a wholesale supplier is cheaper than buying 10. EBay power sellers who have the money to buy in huge bulk have leverage beyond the means of the small seller. BUT, not so well known is the power of buying liquidation and closeout goods. This is the real secret of many ecommerce successes and eBay sellers. If there is a dirty secret, this is certainly a good one. In a moment, I’ll tell you how you can give it a spanking!
Although it is important to buy liquidation-closeout stock from a distributor you trust, you are truly able to purchase goods at a fraction of their retail cost and well below wholesale. I believe the phrase is “pennies on the dollar,” and in some cases that is literally true. This is the power of leveraging bulk against price.
So, what’s the exclusive scoop? The scoop is this:
For Salehoo members only, small lots of liquidation-closeout goods from major, big name retailers, such as Macy’s.

Please understand that Salehoo is not a product distributor but did recently open up a separate website to make available small lots of bulk, liquidated retail goods to Salehoo members. This allows you to buy small lots at small prices, the same prices normally only available if you buy pallet loads and truck loads of goods.

Salehoo remains a directory of product distributor sources for wholesale, dropship, light bulk, liquidation-closeout, and factory manufactured and distributed goods. The salehoo forum is also the real thing. There has been some Salehoo forum scam talk, but as a member myself, I personally feel the scam chatter is hot air. The point of the forum is to allow you to network with other members and the Salehoo management. It is an opportunity to ask question, get feedback on product sources, and cross check information.

As a member myself, I know that the response from the membership as a whole has been positive. This is especially a gold mine for those who sell or want to sell apparel.
Personally, I think this is exciting. Jimmy Huber, who is Salehoo’s management front man says,
As many of you know we have been running a program on SaleHoo brought to you by the Original Salehoo Investment Group designed for small, medium and Large Sellers alike. The program has received a lot of Attention and member feedback and has become a very Successful Program.
For those of you that don’t know about the program. In March we created a Program Designed to allow members of salehoo and the online community acquire Liquidated Retail Products in Large bulk from Us that is Clean and Untouched.

We knew of a growing concern with many of our members. The need for Products to Sell on Ebay,Amazon and Craigslist . . . . We have had many requests for us to Release a $99 Profit Pack for those buyers that Dont have enough for a Full Size Profit Pack. So we have introduced the $99 Profit Packs and added them to our website.

Market Summary
These days a huge proportion of buyers go online to find the best deal for new computer systems, laptops, computer parts and computer accessories.
As we’ve mentioned, computers are a relatively competitive category so you’ll need to have a close look at existing sellers before you start searching for wholesale computer suppliers . Take note of the items sold by existing sellers, final selling price (view completed listings), and how the sellers are promoting their items – are they using stores, free shipping, discounts on multiple orders? What are the existing sellers doing badly? Perhaps they have poor photos or descriptions. Perhaps their shipping is a bit slow. Maybe they are overlooking people who don’t know much about computers and need educating (you could write a special guide and throw it in with each purchase!). If you look hard enough you’ll find a niche that’s ripe for the picking.
Selling Tips for Computers
Bundling–offering free accessories with a laptop or desktop computer system is a great way to encourage people to choose you over competitors.
Offer super fast shipping or shipping discounts. Build the extra cost to you into the item price.
Provide a description that’s informative and educational.

True wholesale companies and true whlesale companies who dropship will always require a sales tax permit or some other documentation from your state of residence that proves you are authorized to buy wholesale goods. Basically, the sales tax permit allows you to buy wholesale goods without paying sales tax. It tells the state treasury department that you may owe them sales tax during the year.
In terms of eBay or ecommerce, your best deals may not always come from true wholesale distributors. That will depend on what you want to sell, whether or not you have access to the manufacturers, and whether or not you will be able to purchase liquidation/closeout inventory. Some of you may have the opportunity to work directly with a local factory and bypass the distributor altogether.
In earlier posts I’ve given away a number of leads to many different sorts of product distributors–some wholesale, some dropshippers, some liquidation specialists. I apologize for not putting up another link or relisting them, but it is late and I’m a step away from bed.
However, in addition to my own research into other sources, I personally use my “ace in the hole” or my all purpose shotgun source, which is an online wholesale directory that lists in the neighborhood of 5000 product distributors. It also includes a forum with many active members. So, before hitting the sack, I’ll mention Salehoo. You may want to check it out or sign up for the free newsletter.
Wishing you luck. And you may want to take a few moments to search this site, or leave me a comment if you need help with something. I might have a product source up my sleeve that could help.

Is it or isn’t it, what is the real Salehoo scam story? Salewho or Salehoo? Scam?
Many people find their way to this blog seeking an answer to that very question. We talk about the the Salehoo scam question in a number of earlier posts. I bring it up again only because we are asked again and again.
I think what people are hung up on is having to spend $67 for the membership. That’s a lifetime membership and a one time fee. And, it is fully refundable, no questions asked, for 60 days. The Salehoo membership is sold through Clickbank, and Clickbank handles all refund requests. Salehoo has nothing to say about the refunds. Clickbank protects you in that regard. You have that protection.
From one point of view, it doesn’t really matter if Salehoo is a scam or not. You could pay, check the site out, and be refunded within the hour. However, most people aren’t buying with the intention of refunding. The fact is, you don’t want to be betrayed; you don’t want the disappointment of it not being what you hoped.
But, your question is, “Is Salehoo a scam?” Salehoo promises to provide you with a list of apporoximately 5000 product distributors offering products that cover roughly 150 categories. Their list is a mix of wholesale businesses, dropship businesses, liquidation closeout specialists, factory distributors, and other distributors who sell discounted goods. The businesses represented in the Salehoo directory have also been verified. What that means is that Salehoo has made an effort to be sure that the business is legitimate. If you, or any memeber should feel that a business on the list is a scam or in some way not legitimate, you can complain to Salehoo, and the business will be investigated. I, personally, have seen businesses removed from the directory. Salehoo also provides a forum on which members network and share information. And finally, Salehoo provides some training material to help you get started if you are starting from scratch. If you are starting from scratch, you will have a learning curve. And I would also advise using the forum to ask questions. Salehoo itself cannot make you money. Salehoo itself does is not a product supplier. If, by chance, you buy products from a company listed on Salehoo and they don’t deliver, Salehoo is not responsible for your loss and will not reimburse you. However, you complaint to the Salehoo staff could get the company banned from the list, and you also have the chance to warn others via the forum that the company is no good.
To answer your question, “Is Salehoo a scam?” I personally say, “no.” I am a member of Salehoo and have never been treated badly or have reason to believe that the service has been misprepresented. That is the best I can do. Does Salehoo have an answer for everybody? Is Salehoo a one-size-fits-all product sourcing solution? No. Absolutely not. The truth, in my experience, is that if you are serious about selling physical products on ebay or throug your own online store, then you research doesn’t ever really stop. Ecommerce is not a lazy way to riches, unless you are already rich enough to hire people to do it all for you and sit back and let the money roll in. For us who have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, as it were, there is no truly easy way to riches. The easy life come after the riches, and then we enjoy the glory.
