True Wholesaler–Do Wholesalers Provide Product Data?
Just to remind you, a true wholesaler is a business buying from the manufacturer and selling goods to retail outlets. In order to buy from a true wholesaler, you must have a state sales tax permit. This allows you to buy from the wholesale source without paying sales tax. Again, as we’ve pointed out elsewhere, a true wholesaler will require proof of a sales tax permit.
Is a sales tax permit hard to get? No. All you need to do is ask. Check with the department of revenue in your stat, or do a search for “sales tax permit” and add the name of your state.
All right, so, do wholesalers provide product data? Real wholesalers as defined above will be able to provide some data. I say, “some data” because the person who originally asked the question did not specify precisely what data. But yes, generally speaking, the true wholesaler will be able to provide product data.
Wholesale companies who keep inventory and ship for you are called dropshippers. A real dropshipper is a company who buys from the manuafacturer, stocks the inventory, and ships it out under your company name. A “middleman” is a company who buys inventory from a wholesaler, marks the price up, and then markets the products as wholesale goods. In other words, a middleman is a retailer masquerading as a wholesaler. Many dropshippers are middlemen, and although buyers are often warned to be sure their sources are not middlemen, it is also important to pay attention to quality and price of the goods. And yes, of course, it is important to not be sandbagged by a dishonest middleman, but you can avoid that by doing your research.
