Wholesale Dropship Products, EBay Sellers, and Home Business

Wholesale dropship products sourcing tips are at the end of post.

EBay wholesale dropship–magic words almost guaranteed to produce a Pavlovian response in anyone whose been around the Internet marketing EBay crowd 5 minutes or more. I’ll just mention, here, that dropshipping and eBay may not always be the best combination. The lie that you can make money on eBay dropshipping cheap wholesale products has been repeated so often that many newcomers think that this is generally true. Think again.

In some individual cases where the market is right for a particular product, you might be able to do well dropshipping products you sell on eBay. However, in general, the extra costs of dropshipping combined with the highly competitive eBay marketplace may reduce or nullify any profit margin. Again, in individual cases dropshipping on eBay might work well. We have to get rid of the idea that dropshipping is the same from distributor to distributor. You may find that you can work out dropshipping arrangements with manufacturers and/or distributors who would not normally dropship.

I apologize for being brief, and I’ll try to expand on some of these ideas in later posts. The next point I want to mention is something that Jimmy Huber from Salehoo discussed in a forum post when he was still with Salehoo. EBay is really a wholesale market. Product price on eBay can be extremely low and very often prices are already below wholesale. That is to say, even though you are reselling (in most cases reselling), it is not really a retail market. If you are buying wholesale and then marking up, you may find that on eBay you have marked yourself up out of any margin for profit. The question, then, becomes, what is the secret to sourcing those products at such low prices that we can still profit? This is something else we will talk about, but actually, we’ve discussed this in other posts on this site. It is important and needs to be repeated, so we will be talking about this in more detail.

So far, we’ve been mostly talking about product sourcing in the context of eBay. This all changes once we move off eBay to our own site or perhaps completely offline business. No reason to limit yourself to strictly online selling. Offlline might be more effective.

I do have a few online product sourcing tips. These look interesting, but I have not personally used these sources. I am mentioning them here because they appear legitimate, and you probably won’t know about them, but I am in no way endorsing them. Never put off doing your own due diligence.

bnfusa.com–dropshipper for many consumer items; mostly apparel, leather, and sporting goods; small selection of electronics. Requires sale tax permit.
wholesalecentral.com–List of many dropship and wholesale sites. Requires close inspection to verify that sites and products are what you want.
wholesalediscs.com–what caught my eye is that they offer bulk lots of computer games. Something to investigate. Could work well for eBay if you want to stock your own inventory.

All for now. Thank you for reading.
