Wholesale Drop Ship Company for Electronics (Such as New Laptops)

Here is a question I found on Yahoo Answers about drop ship wholesale that I ran across while nosing about the Internet:

I would like to begin selling electronics on ebay, but I’m a newbie at the whole ebay thing. So far, every drop ship company that was recommend to me do not drop ship what I’m looking for or they require purchasing in bulk (and in advance). I would like to find reputable drop ship companies, preferably who do not charge monthly service fees (unless they have excellent prices, etc. etc.). Also is there any free online program that can monitor what sells the best on ebay & for what price? (or at least an inexpensive program?)

This question probably reflects many concerns that people have about when trying to find dropshippers and true wholesalers. In this case, the question was probably a plant by someone trying to promote their own affiliate links.

Why do I think that? Well, the posted answers were full of affiliate links. Ugh. And, as a general rule, dropshipping mass market consumer items–especially electronics–on eBay is not likely to succeed. The reason is that dropshipping on eBay is too expensive and the competition–especially in the area of electronics–to stiff to be able to make a profit. Even purchasing items in bulk from a wholesale distributor may not afford you enough profit margin if you plan to sell on eBay. EBay is already a wholesale selling environment, and you have to keep that in mind when researching your products and calculating expected profits.

Dropshipping used to be a service that true wholesalers would offer their clients. Now, because of the vast numbers of people trying to establish their own online businesses selling popular consumer items, dropshipping warehouses, such as dropshipdesign.com and megagoods.com have sprung up. They are not wholesalers. When you buy from them you are not buying from a wholesaler but a retail business discounting the price of their merchandise. It’s possible that some of the prices may be at or near wholesale. Most of these businesses charge recurring fees for their services. Dropship warehouses of this sort who offer true wholesale prices will need some way of making a profit and this is often done by selling other services, such as preloaded and designed websites, and membership fees.

The only time you may be able to get “free” dropshipping, is when a wholesaler offers it as a complimentary service. WYNIT, for example, will dropship for no extra charge. However, DBL, another big electronics wholesaler, charges an addtional dropship fee plus a fee for setting up the account. In case you’ve heard the talk about how legitimate dropshippers never charge addtional fees, DBL is one of the biggest wholesale distributors in the U.S. There is nothing non-legitimate about them. The dropshipping fees are simply a result of their company policy.

Now, it is the case that some wholesalers who dropship will require that you pre-purchase, or buy in bulk, a minimum quantity. However, keep in mind that that keeps the price down. Dropshippers who allow single purchases will always be more expensive because it is more expensive to sell a single item. You will never find a wholesaler giving you a single item price that is the same as the bulk price.
